Ummm.... Thanks?

So, I helped a user find something in MiChart.  As we are navigating there and she's getting the information she needs, she is getting excited and says, "You're such a nerd!  I love it!"

National Health IT Week

NHITWeek_Banner_518x128
Since we are in the Health IT field, our supervisor directed us to the Health IT Week website, and encouraged us to participate in some of the activities. While many of the webinars are going to be streamed during working hours, I am hoping to participate in the one on upcoming changes regarding ePrescribing this Thursday afternoon. Other events and webinars are to be available on online blogs, so I will also be looking out for those and will post links here for any interesting ones that I find! Happy Health IT Week! Remember to thank your Tech Support!

Office Birthdays

We have a couple birthdays coming up. Shortly after I got here, I organized a calendar where we will celebrate each person's birthday by bringing in dessert items of their choice. Today, I checked with the people whose birthdays are next week, to see what they would like. One replied with a simple request. I said it was okay to be all selfish and request something specific that they would like, even if it might not be well received by others. They said that they didn't like a big thing being made of their birthday. To which I replied: "I love people. Birthdays celebrate people. You'll just have to suck it up and enjoy my enthusiasm. :)"

Well, He Tried...

After a fairly sad and depressing morning, I ran to the store on my lunch to grab ice cream for the team. As the cashier was ringing me up, I noted that I was having a bad day. Apparently trying to cheer me up, he says, "I hope your day doesn't get worse. And, at least you can go outside and enjoy... the rain..."

Go Live!

Today was our first day of Go Live, where we implement the Inpatient applications of Epic at UMHS. Overall, it went far more smoothly than I had anticipated! I worked a 12 hour shift, then stayed an extra 3 hours to finish up on some projects, but the day really flew by. Everyone is waiting for Monday, saying that Monday is going to be the real test. I'm not sure... I have faith in us at this point. I think Monday will be just fine! :)

Interpretative Dance

Sadly, I deleted the verbatim exchange... Here is my re-creation of events: I came in today, and typically I send an IM to my co-workers in greeting, as we all arrive to work at different times. This morning, I didn't send it out until about an hour after I arrived. My co-worker, B, send an immediate response via private IM:
B: You are late.
Me: It's still morning. So... valid.
B: But you got here over an hour ago.
Me: And I said "Hi" verbally. Besides, if I had sent it out when I got here, V would not have received the greeting. Again.
B: I expect a verbal, written, and greeting through interpretive dance!
Me: I will work on my dance for tomorrow. Do you want different genres for different days?
B: Genre - no; costume - yes
Me: Oh dear. I was so looking forward to Hip Hop Hump Day....

Active U

Every year, U of M sponsors Active U, a program to get employees to exercise more.  You can form teams and track your progress for 12 weeks.

There's also the element of competition...  You can see  how your team compares to other teams.

Right now, WE ARE #1!

Epic's Haiku/Canto

EPIC is the EMR that we use at work. They have applications to be used on mobile devices: Haiku for iPhone/Android phones and Canto for iPad.

These programs are rather difficult to get installed/maintain/use, at least in our experience.

So yesterday, a co-worker was having difficulties with Canto and asked for some assistance.

I offered, "You know what else uses canto? ... Dante's 9 circles of Hell!" :)

But it gets better... As I was driving home, I thought up something for the companion program:

Do you know what is
Also very annoying?
Haiku for iPhone

That's right!  A haiku for Haiku!  :)

[My apologies to EPIC.  I love your program.  These two are just frustrating sometimes.]

The Catholic Church - The Source of Truth

A co-worker comes over to my cube, "Hey, Jenn. I know you are Catholic, but I just wanted to ask a religious question in general." Her question was whether it was required that she get her husband's new wedding ring blessed. I answered as best I could, but I was most happy that she came to me with the question in the first place. She wanted to make sure she was doing the right thing. The take-away here is that the Catholic Church is the source of Truth! BAM! :)

Customer Service

How many people who have customer service roles see it as a part of their mission to brighten people's day by providing world-class service?
